Muskegon River Trout Fly Fishing

Big Brown Trout caught at dusk on a nymphWest Michigan’s Rivers and streams we have some of the best trout fishing in the mid west! In particular, the Muskegon River tailwater fishery between Croton Dam and Newaygo creates phenomenal amounts of biomass with massive grow rates on trout! We fish trout throughout the year but winter and late spring to early summer are for sure, the best! Whether it’s nymphing or dry flies, the Muskegon can’t be beat!

Trout fishing along the Muskegon River offers world-class fly fishing and nymphing for rainbows and browns. Best techniques include nymphing with small patterns along the bottom. Floating lines with a small iceĀ fishing float or strike indicator seem to work the best.

The techniques and style of fishing change with the season but that chance of landing that huge resident trout is always there. Whether we are nymphing behind spawning fish or small nymphs, or stripping streamers, swinging soft hackle, or even casting dry flies to rising fish we have the skills to teach and help you tune up your technique and get you onto more fish. Which ever type of trout fishing you like or would like to try spring time on the Muskegon is one of the best places to try it.
